Solo Female Travel in Israel

Situated in the Middle Eastern region on the southeastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea, Israel is a fascinating fusion of ancient traditions and modern culture. Known as the birthplace of both Judaism and Christianity, it attracts millions of tourists every year who come to explore its religious sites like Jerusalem's Western Wall and Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Bethlehem's Manger Square, and Nazareth's Basilica of the Annunciation. But there’s more to Israel than just history; Tel Aviv flaunts vibrant nightlife, beautiful beaches, and an impressive gastronomic scene, while the Red Sea resort of Eilat offers scuba diving and other water sports. Israel is also renowned for its Dead Sea, where visitors float effortlessly due to the high salt concentration.

Is Israel good for solo travel?

Safety:

Safety:Safe

Israel is generally safe for solo female travelers. It is a progressive country with respectful locals and a good public transportation system. However, safety can slightly fluctuate depending on the political situation. Israel has strict security measures that can sometimes be intimidating, particularly at borders and airports, but these measures are in place for everyone’s safety. Exercise common sense and situational awareness just as you would in any other country. Consider travel in groups or tours if you are unsure or uncomfortable.
Transport:

Transport:Easy

Navigating Israel is generally simple due to its compact size and developed public transport networks. English is universally understood which further eases commutation. However, understanding some local customs can be beneficial and during holidays, there may be transport disruptions.
Things to do:

Things to do:Interesting

Israel offers a plethora of activities for a solo female traveler. The country’s diverse landscapes allow for hiking, water sports, and desert treks. Its rich history and cultures mean there are numerous historical sites to visit, from the ancient city of Jerusalem to the modernity of Tel Aviv. It boasts some stunning beaches along the Mediterranean and the unique experience of floating in the Dead Sea. The local food scene, particularly street food, is also worth exploring. Lastly, safety is generally high but it's always important to stay vigilant.
Food:

Food:Excellent

The food in Israel is renowned for its fresh flavours, unique combinations, and fusion of global influences. The diversity is truly impressive, encompassing Arabic, Mediterranean, and international dishes. Traditional meals like hummus, falafel, and shakshuka are everywhere, but you'll also find a broad variety of vegan and vegetarian options. Street food is of high quality and innovative restaurants cater to all tastes. The local produce, especially fruit and vegetables, is noteworthy for its freshness and taste. However, certain dietary restrictions, like gluten-free or specific food allergies, might be a bit challenging in some places.
Budget:

Budget:Moderate

Israel offers a unique mix of experiences for travelers where you can end up spending a lot depending on your preferences. While public transportation, street food, and certain activities are affordable, main tourist spots, accommodations especially in big cities, and eating out at restaurants could be expensive. It's a medium-cost destination so planning your expenditures wisely could lead to a more budget-friendly trip.

Couple travel experience

In general Israel felt safe and people were super nice and helpful.I've had so much luck to be there before the new situation... even tho day before I came there were rockets attack.Still it felt safe.I've stayed in Tel Aviv wich reminded me kinda experience in Barcelona.happy people playing on the beach... food was really good but in general expensive.after Tel Aviv I've visited Jerusalem and it was magic for me.Western wall is good to visit during weekend at night where you can find only locals.entire area is way nicer than during the day.walking around closed stores felt like in video game =) labyrinth. I also had a chance to go to dead sea.Wich I recommend to be there in the afternoon and go back by the evenings, experience is nice but there is not much to do besides laying in the water. The way from Jerusalem to dead sea is also amazing. I've spend just 4 days in Israel, if I had a chance I would love to come back and visit Eilat as well

Group travel experience

Israel was amazing. In every single way. I have never in my life felt safer and statistics back me up. I would be willing to argue that Israel is the safest place in the world for solo women. Although I went with a group of people, many times I would walk at night either alone or with 1-3 other women around my age (18-20) and sometimes even intoxicated and we never once felt in danger from Tel Aviv to Tiberius. Abraham hostels are a super high quality line of hostels and the one in Tel Aviv is the best I’ve stayed at. It has tours, live music, clean rooms/bathrooms and so incredibly safe and inclusive. I cannot recommend Israel enough and I am counting the seconds until I go back. It is so diverse, beautiful and breathtaking.

I feel very safe in Israel. The people here are very friendly. It is a very beautiful country filled with history. It is an awesome and wonderful experience to be in such a beautiful country, a country that has been so close to my heart since I was a child.

Solo travel experience

I traveled alone through Israel and Palestine in January of this year. The only threat may be the current state of conflict, otherwise, it is an extremely safe and pleasant country. The climate varies depending on the city - Tel Aviv is very open, Jerusalem is diverse and somewhat more conservative, Haifa is student-oriented, and Tiberias is strongly Jewish and has a festive atmosphere. It's really worth visiting Israel.

Solo travel experience

I was alone in January of this year for 10 days. I visited Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Bethlehem. I got to all these places by public transport, without any problems. I plan to return and see more, because I am still hungry for new experiences. It's an incredibly interesting country and in my opinion, safe. It's wonderful to be in Jerusalem during Shabbat and to visit Yad Vashem, it's an unforgettable experience.

Solo travel experience

I just got back last week and had wonderful experiences. I loved travelling there alone as a woman, it was much easier than I anticipated both in Israel and in the Palestinian territories. It's really beautiful there. So much to see.

Solo travel experience

I lived and traveled there alone for about a year. So many things to see and do. There are many cities and plenty of beautiful nature to discover. It's worth noting that it has such vast territory, from desert in the south to lush greenery in the north. Israel is very safe for solo travelers.

Solo travel experience

Israel was one of the best trips I've ever done. There are so many soldiers everywhere (unfortunately), so I never felt unsafe. I recommend Jerusalem and Tel Aviv (spend a few days in each) and, of course, the West Bank (I visited Bethlehem, Jericho, Hebron, Ramallah and the baptism site). The food is delicious. There's so much to see, from ancient Roman remnants, through Christian sights, Palestinian culture, Holocaust Museum and so on. It's really a gem. And the color of the sea is amazing.

Solo travel experience

I was alone in Israel for two weeks and I loved it. I walked around the Jerusalem markets and the Old Town, and also went on trips to the Dead Sea and Galilee. I never felt uncomfortable or scared.

Solo travel experience

Israel is an incredible country, full of history and monuments. I both used couch-surfing and stayed in a hostel in Tel Aviv, visited Jaffa and Jerusalem, took a bus to Eilat and stayed there for a few days to swim in the Red Sea and snorkel with dolphins.

Is Israel safe for women?

Israel is a pretty safe county I would say, obviously there are many not so nice stories I heard from friends but I can tell you that if you don't go to the wrong times you would be fine, and although there are some catcalling here and there things like murder rape and kidnap happens in very few places and I don't know about them. There are rape stories but it usually isn't someone random on the street. What I would keep an eye on is terror, obviously right now there is a very high alert all through the country so it's less scary but you don't want to piss off the wrong people, but also don't think that the druzik and arabic villages in Israel aren't safe, most of them are and most of the people are nice and kind, just, I would keep an eye open while passing by, especially at night.
