The city is generally safe and the city centre is walkable. You have to take into consideration pickpocketing especially in bus stops and crowded places. Walking in the west side of the centre can be unsafe especially at night, the train station is sketchy as well. The only ways of transportation is buses, taxi, walking and renting bikes. There is only one bus at night that goes through the central bus station - train station - centre - airport but no other public transport at night. If you stay there choose to stay in the city centre or the east side of the city and be alert walking alone at night. You can stay safe and have a good trip there just try to stay alert especially at night.

Thessaloniki is a safe city in general. The city centre there are always people around. The west areas of the city are not safe neither at night or the morning. If you search for a stay probably centre and eastward is a better solution.

Since I went to Thessaloniki with a tour, the hotel I stayed in was 40 minutes away from the city center, so I don't recommend staying far from the center. Our guide told us that if we wanted to use a taxi, it would cost 45 Euros from the city center to the hotel. It is a city with a young population and nightlife in summer. The promenade and Aristoteles square were incredible! There is a wide variety of bars and if you want to eat there are many tavernas. There is also musical entertainment in the tavernas and the ouzo is really good. We paid 45 euros for the taverna but it was part of the tour package so it was more expensive. Even 20-30 Euros will be enough. Thessaloniki is a really colorful and fun city. I felt very comfortable even in the side streets and did not encounter any problems. I also saw that there are tours from the city center to various beaches. I can say that Thessaloniki is one of the most beautiful places to go in summer!

was a fun city and unsuspectingly fun, close to beautiful beaches. some harassment but everyone was friendly and the food was amazing and within a very easy budget. Very walkable and beautiful views of the ocean, accommodation was easy as well. A lot of cats and cool ruins but overall it is a port city not very beachy itself. In terms of harassment some men selling bracelets were very forward with their tactics sometimes with physical contact, but besides that there is not a lot of negative interaction.
